The story of Hotel Riederalm in Leogang
A look backThere are so many stories we could tell about Hotel Riederalm. Here, we’ve picked out a few of the milestones. If you’re curious to hear more, just ask us during your stay at our hotel in Leogang – we’re always happy to share. For now, join us for a short journey through our history.
The history of Hotel Riederalm
Where it all began
Hotel Riederalm opened on 26 December 1989, though it was a far cry from the 4-star superior hotel in Leogang you know today. Back then, it was a ski hut, dance venue and restaurant all rolled into one.
The first holiday apartments were added, and Elfriede and Friedl welcomed their first overnight guests that same winter. With the opening of the children’s traffic park in 1997 and the à la carte restaurant, Hotel Riederalm became a popular day-trip destination, especially in summer, for families.

Following renovation and expansion, Hotel Riederalm welcomed guests as a hotel for the first time in 2007.
Our family grows
Even in the early years, we had plenty of awards to celebrate – and there were personal milestones too. In 2011, our first child, Juliana, was born. Three years later, in May 2014, we welcomed our son Laurenz. We now had a little family of our own.
A major expansion at Hotel Riederalm
When our pool needed replacing in 2014, we decided to turn it into something our guests could enjoy for years to come. Our motto was: “Still us – just better, bigger and more comfortable!” We added the Family Spa and the adults-only spa area, plenty of new rooms and suites and new restaurants, always aiming to give our guests more to enjoy and make their holidays both relaxing and unforgettable.
Leogang’s first thermal pool and a little ray of sunshine
You might think life settled down after all those busy years, but there was still plenty happening. After the major renovation in 2014, we continued to improve and expand Hotel Riederalm, adding more comfort for our guests. In 2018, our efforts were recognised with 4-star superior status. That same year brought another wonderful arrival: Frida, our third child.

At the end of 2022, Friedl and Elfriede handed Hotel Riederalm over to Andreas and Andrea.

A new trampoline room & gym
Hotel Riederalm continues to evolve. At our guests’ request, we added a trampoline room with ValoJumps and a jumping obstacle course, along with a new gym offering wonderful views of the Leogang Steinberge mountains.
Welcome to the “dahoam” restaurant – Michelin-starred dining in Leogang
Before our journey through time brings us back to the present, let’s stop by the Michelin-starred “dahoam” restaurant. It opened in 2021, and while it didn’t have a star then, recognition soon followed. In 2024, Andreas Herbst’s gourmet creations at the “dahoam” restaurant earned four Gault&Millau toques, a coveted MICHELIN Star and a MICHELIN Green Star for sustainable gastronomy.
Looking ahead at Hotel Riederalm…
…there’s plenty to look forward to. The Herbst family has never been short of ideas or ambition, and we have more plans we can’t wait to share with you.
